私たちの惑星は大きな変容の時期を迎え、確実に既知の領域を超えて意識のあり方が拡大しています。そのような新しい意識のあり方を共振させて行く手段として、大昔から続けられてきた「絵を描く」という単純な事が、とても有効なのではないかと私は感じています。私の作品はまるで誰かが背中をポンと押してくれるように、あなたを新しい意識のあり方に調律します。
絵その物は、目に見える物質で作られるわけですが、私たちが絵を描こうとする時にまず向き合うのは目には見えない精妙なエネルギーです。日本には自然そのものに神聖を見る伝統がありますが、私はパプアニューギニアでの生活を通して、遠く南半球の島々にそのようなアニミズムの源泉を見ました。そして幸運にも、自然その物と向き合い、そこにある目には見えない存在への敬意から彫刻を彫り、絵を描く人びとの伝統的な営みの中で共に生活をする機会を得る事ができました。その時の体験は今でも私が、目には見えないエネルギーを受け取り、絵を描くことの中に息づいています。
「八坂圭は時空の波動を写し取る浮世絵師だ」と作曲家の今雅人は言いました。私は、キャンバスを用意し、自分が感じ取る事の出来る、もっとも透明で輝ける時空を軽やかに意識します。その軽やかな風のような意識の中、私は目に見えざる事象と目に見える事柄の縦横を繋ぐ結節点となります。その、結節点であることに、なんのこだわりもなく、自我からの欲求もなく、ありうべき点で、ありうべき時にそうあるだけです。そのとき、輝ける意識の共振を呼ぶ一点の平面絵画が表出されます。まるで、時空という版木に素材をポンと押しあてて、写し取るように。
このような行為を喩えるならば、日常の風景の中の一断片に、日常性から切り離された美的な一瞬を見いだし、味わう事に似ているといえるでしょう。いつものキッチンに積み上げられた家族の器に反射する朝日のダンスであったり、庭の木の一つ一つの葉に輝く雨の雫の丸さであったり。 壁の落書きが工事中のフェンスに遮られたときに見せた新しい形と構図の妙であったり。すべての何気ない日常は、その前後の文脈から抜け出した時に、思いもしない輝きや美しさを内包しているものです。
そのような、時空の結節点としての私の作品を多くの皆様と共有出来れば幸いです。どうやらこの宇宙は奇想天外な愛によって満たされた、光の海のようなのです。私からあなたへ。意識の共振を信頼します。

Our planet is facing a transformation and our consciousness is unquestionably expanding far beyond what we've ever known. In order to resonate with the new consciousness, I feel that simple methods of painting from intuition which date back to antiquity suits us well. My paintings attune you to the new consciousness, as if someone was pressing a button on your back to turn you on.
Painting itself is creating the tangible, but to paint the tangible we must first face intangible energy. In my case, interest in Japanese traditional culture which worships nature deities brought me to Papua New Guinea. I was inspired by witnessing the source of animism far beyond in the southern hemisphere. Luckily I was able to know the traditional life of the Papua New Guineans who chisel a statue and use paints to revere an invisible being, the spirit of the ancestors. The memory of this experience still lives in my art.
However my art has been described as having a very Japanese sensibility. According to composer Kon masato: "Kei Yasaka is like an Ukiyoe artist (woodblock artist) who prints the vibration of space-time." I set a canvas in front of me, focus on the most clear and brilliant space-time that I can sense. This is the radiance of deep consciousness connecting the self to the divine. I become the crossover point where invisible matter coming from above meets visible matter in front of us. This is the point when a painting which resonates with the new consciousness is born, as if the art was being imprinted with the space-time.
Every day, true essence reveals itself when detached from context. When seeing leaves in the wind from the corner of my eyes, for instance, I can sense the radiance as if for the first time.
I hope to share my work at this crossover point in time-space with many of you. It appears that this universe is like an ocean of light, filled with amazing and humorous love. It's at this crossover point that our consciousness resonates as one. It's here that I dedicate my art to you,
